Tom Shinness

Welcome to the music of Tom Shinness. Tom is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, session player, clinician, teacher and mentor. Tom uses a huge variety of conventional, unusual, and various ethnic instruments. He often lays aside the ideas as to how these instruments are traditionally used, and combines unlikely sound combinations to achieve fresh new sonic textures. He will often play a minimum of thirty different instruments while in the recording studio preparing a CD.

Tom has released 5 CDs on the Zithwood Music label. He is also featured on the world’s first harp-guitar compilation CD, Beyond Six Strings, in which he plays his Gibson harpguitar which was built in 1913.

Tom’s music is being used on NPT, NPR and nationally-viewed TV commercials.
